Before you listen, make a list of possible plants and vegetables that might grow in an urban community garden. Write words in German and your native language, and then look up the words you don&#8217;t know. In this lesson, we&#8217;ll be reviewing modal verbs and a few verbs that are commonly used with specific prepositions.<\/p>\n<p>As you may remember from previous units, modal verbs are helping verbs. The modal verbs are:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>sollen<\/em><br \/>\n<em>wollen<\/em><br \/>\n<em>m\u00fcssen<\/em><br \/>\n<em>d\u00fcrfen<\/em><br \/>\n<em>k\u00f6nnen<\/em><br \/>\n<em>m\u00f6gen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When you create a sentence with a modal verb, the modal verb is conjugated and placed where the verb would normally go in the sentence, and the verb that it is helping will go at the end of the sentence in the infinitive (-en) form.<\/p>\n<p>Review and practice modal verbs with the following set of activities.<\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width: 800px;\"><div class=\"h5p-iframe-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"h5p-iframe-26\" class=\"h5p-iframe\" data-content-id=\"26\" style=\"height:1px\" src=\"about:blank\" frameBorder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"Modal Verb Review\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div>\n<h3>Verbs with Prepositional Complements<\/h3>\n<p>Some verbs are frequently used in combination with a particular preposition. Examples of this in English are: to wait <em>for<\/em> someone or something, to prepare <em>for<\/em> something. If you think that you might need to use a verb with a prepositional complement, it&#8217;s a good idea to check with a dictionary, either online or paper. Some verbs use more than one preposition, and so you&#8217;ll want to be careful that you choose the correct preposition and case for the situation you&#8217;re describing.<\/p>\n<p>You may have noticed these combinations as you&#8217;ve listened or read German texts.
