You also learned that the perfect tense is generally used when <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speaking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about past events in German and that the simple past (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">das Imperfekt <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">das Pr\u00e4teritum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is used more frequently when writing in German. Since you are familiar with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perfekt<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, let\u2019s take a closer look at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imperfekt<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, the simple past can often be found in written genres narrating a sequence of past events (newspaper articles, literary texts such as novels, fairy tales, short stories, etc.).
